Decisions, Decisions

Another successful t-ball season, check!

Boomer just completed his second t-ball season and now it's time for him to make some decisions.  Play lacrosse or soccer.

Last fall he played basketball and attended a lacrosse clinic for 11 wks.  We decide to allow him to attend a clinic verses putting him on a team to see if he really liked the sport.

In the beginning he did not like it.  See when you have been playing lacrosse on your tiled hallway it's easy to scoop.  Scooping on grass is a different game.

When you have been the person who knows everything based on the YouTube videos you've watched,  you are superior to your two yr. old little brother.  However, when you become the youngest person on the field you realize YouTube really didn't teach you and you become frustrated.

When you can't cradle, run and keep the ball in the head of your stick you become more frustrated.

Lastly, when you are use to picking things up the first time and being one of the best and now are not, you become beyond frustrated.

Well, this was the case with Boomer.  He wanted to quit.

Quit!

I know you didn't say you wanted to quit when we just paid over $200, woke up early on a Sat. morning and dressed your brother and sister.  Oh, and I combed your sister's hair.  You want to quit?  I don't think so!

"Son you need to learn everything in life is not easy!"

So, what do you think happened?

That's right!  Boomer stayed in lacrosse and ended up loving it!

Then the spring season rolled around.  "Boomer do you want to play on a lacrosse or basketball team."  BASKETBALL!

Then weeks later he decides he "really" wants to play lacrosse.  I tell him I think it's to late.  I ended up calling the one team that will allow him to play that isn't located in Timbuktu.

Oh, soap box time.  Why are the entries to barrier to this sport so high.  There's the high cost of instruction, high cost of equipment, and teams are based on where you live or parochial schools.

We are broke :), live in the hood, and homeschool!  Where does that leave us?  Without a team.

Back to our scheduled program.  I call and the team for his age is full.  He is devastated!  We just see it as another learning lesson for him.  Make decisive decisions in a timely manner, check.

For the spring 2011 season.  We watch and record several college lacrosse games with the DVR.  We watch some of him favorite plays over and over and over and over and over and over again.  Sorry, I just wanted you to feel my pain.

Here's on of them.

Now we are getting geared up for fall lacrosse.  It's not regulated like the spring so hopefully we can find a team.  Keep your fingers crossed. Or maybe I'll just teach him based off of YouTube videos :)
